We are a non-profit, no-kill shelter dedicated to ensuring the safety, happiness, and health of the animals in our care as they await their forever homes.
As a small yet impactful animal control and shelter, we collaborate closely with the cities of Burien and Des Moines. We take pride in achieving a 65% return-to-owner (RTO) rate, handling over 1,000 animal intakes each year.

C.A.R.E.S. is the Animal Care & Control authority for the city of Burien & Des Moines, Washington. Our primary concerns are public safety, the health and welfare of domestic animals, and enforcing the relevant laws and ordinances of Burien and Des Moines, King County, and Washington State.

C.A.R.E.S. was formed in 2011 by a group of local residents and business owners who wanted to reduce the dangers and nuisances caused by irresponsible pet ownership, and to protect pets from abuse, neglect and homelessness.
