Opening in late 2015, the Burien Toyota & Chevrolet Dog Park is adjacent to Lakeview Park, a 5.0 acre neighborhood park located in Burien, WA. It is located on the site of the former Lakeview Elementary School. It was established with the vision of developing a lively off-leash dog park in the friendly community of Burien, WA.
park history
In 2012, the idea for an off-leash dog park in Burien gained momentum after numerous public surveys, Parks and Recreation Advisory Board meeting discussions, public meetings and Council meetings. The B-Town Dog Owners Group (DOG) organized and spoke at the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board and City Council meetings and committed to supporting the goal of establishing an off-leash dog park through volunteering and fundraising.
On July 1, 2013 the City Council approved a dog park to be located at Lakeview Park and authorized the City Manager to sign an amendment to the property lease with Highline School District. During the 2015–2016 biennial budget process, the Council approved a commitment of $15,000 PaRCS Capital Improvement Program funding for the establishment of a dog park in 2017 on the condition that the remaining needed funds would be matched and raised through private donations.
B-Town DOG’s enthusiastic volunteers were able to raise funds much more quickly than had been anticipated, and on February 2, 2015, it presented a check for $15,000 to the Council. It even received an Exemplary Service Award for their efforts from Discover Burien on March 20, 2015. Additional support came in the form of a $10,000 commitment from Burien Toyota and Chevrolet in exchange for naming rights on the park. Finally, an additional $20,000 donation in support of the dog park project was provided by Beneful, a dog food company owned by Purina.
